He sat, taking in the smells and for once, thanking Merlin that Katie knew her way around the kitchen and that she could make anything. He needed to keep his mind off of George and from what he said in the beginning of their conversation. It wasn’t like George to be like he was, but Fred understood why. They had always been “Fred and George” or even “Gred and Forge” but now they needed to be Fred Weasley. George Weasley. A set of twins, apart.
Fred took in a breath and let the aroma of eggs and bacon fills his nose. ”No, but I’m sure Charlie will make sure he writes once a week. I’ll have to tell him when I get a letter that he has to come here for Christmas. And Charlie too. I’m not letting the Bachelor go off drinking at a pub somewhere.” He chuckled and looked down at the table, drawing patterns in it with his finger.
“Yes, we’re going to get Charlie home whether he likes it or not.” Picking out another pickle, Katie took out a rather large bite and began chewing in an almost determined fashion as she flipped the bacon again and dealt with the rest of the food in front of her. She had forgotten how almost therapeutic cooking could be and was happy that she could manage well enough without burning anything. Tonight would be an easy night - easy meal, easy cleanup, a nice shower and an easy sleep.
As the eggs and bacon and hash browns finished, Katie turned the heat off of the pans and with a couple of waves of the wand, had two plates prepared. Carrying them out to the table and setting them down, she smiled and took her seat, biting into a slice of bacon despite the fact that it was incredibly hot. After letting it sit for a couple of seconds she chewed and swallowed, clearing her throat. “How is it, love?”
Even though the events of the day still played in his head, he was happy with Katie. Yes, he was doing things without George, but he was still going to be his child’s uncle and godfather. If Katie was going to argue, then he’d have to come back and slap some sense into her. Fred needed George to be a part of his life and even after everything that had happened, he wasn’t going to let his brother out of his life. Not yet.
His thoughts were briefly stopped when Katie kissed him again, her lips moving against his and he, in turn, deepened their embrace and pulled her closer. ”Can’t go to bed on an empty stomach.” Winking, Fred let her up and moved to the table to sit, but not before talking again. ”We’re on good terms now. He did promise to write, now that Charlie’s on his back, but he probably won’t visit anytime soon.”
The kiss and sweet embrace was almost enough to take Katie’s mind off of everything, but she still couldn’t get it out of her head that yes, she was pregnant and she needed to tell Fred… but not tonight. No, he had already had too much to deal with in one night and he deserved to have a break from serious news for a few days. She’d tell him on Monday, after she got home from her appointment. Yes, that would be perfect and it would give her time to prepare.
As Fred let her up, Katie returned to the pans and began cracking eggs, cooking hash browns and flipping bacon. “That’s good that he’s going to write” called Katie over her shoulder, breaking up the egg with a fork in an effort to scramble them. “Did he say how often he will? And he must come over for Christmas, it’d be a sin to spend the holidays away.”
He pressed his lips against hers as she did to his, sighing into their kiss. Even when his brother was being a complete arse, he did have a point. They weren’t kids anymore. They needed to grow and be themselves, not two parts to a whole. The twins could still keep in contact of course, but George was right: he needed to be himself and Fred needed to stay with Katie and the shop. Even then, he could send new things from Romania and Fred could send new products to test. They could still keep the shop running.
Fred chuckled and watched as she pulled out the bacon, along with a jar of pickles. He cocked his head to the side as she gnawed away on one, but grinned and grabbed one as well. “Pickles and bacon? A new Bernie Botts Flavored Bean? Or…we could develop our own joke candy! Exploding Lollipops, the face changing candies…oh, this is going to be a great night.” He took her in his arms and dipped her, kissing her again.
Fred seemed to be in higher spirits already, and Katie wasn’t quite sure whether it was all her own doing or not. Either way, she wasn’t going to question it - he was more calm, relaxed - and as he mentioned developing joke candies and pulled her into an embrace, she laughed. It seemed to bubble right out of her and she couldn’t help the beaming smile on her lips as she was dipped down and given another kiss.
Wrapping her arms around his shoulders, Katie returned the kiss, almost eagerly so - and when she did pull away, she giggled softly as her forehead rested against his. “At this rate, love, we’ll be going to bed hungry.” Though, that prospect didn’t seem entirely negative as she found his mouth again, her lips moving slowly against his this time, savoring the kiss that would hopefully be enough for both of them until after dinner.
omg….bacon….yes! and Luna can give Fred and Katie a little mobile for the baby with little nargles and moon frogs made from yarn and tin foil and stuff like that!
-Squeals and claps-
hfisdhjifjdiogjdoigjdf yes yes yes! ♥ god I can’t wait for this.
With a sigh, he felt Katie’s lips pressing against his cheek. That brought a bit of healing to his heart, but what she said next almost sent him over the edge to a breakdown. “No, he’s not. I almost threw him out of the shop, Katie.” Fred let his back press against the archway frame and let the heel of his hands sink into his eyes. “I was furious with him, Katie. Not even a letter for the past few months! I thought he was somewhere, working on Death Eaters and recruitment but he’s just been slinging dragon dung!”
Fred felt the lump in his throat beginning to form and just couldn’t take it anymore. The tears began to flow and his voice shook. “He talked about how we were always together, never apart. It’s always been me and him, Fred and George. We studied together, played together. Hell, even when we were in the crib we couldn’t be apart. One time, Mum made us sleep in different rooms, me with Bill and him with Charlie. He stopped eating and I set Bill’s broom on fire.” He chuckled, but his voice was still weak. “Even after that, we thought the same.
“When I asked you to marry me, he said that it was the first move towards a life without him. It was the time when he wasn’t going to be a complete part of my life…and I didn’t even consider that because I was thinking about us. About our life together and I wasn’t even taking him into my consideration.” He banged his head against the frame and muttered to himself.
As Katie began to take things out of the fridge, Fred walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her waist. “Breakfast for dinner sounds wonderful, but as long as we can have some bacon with it, maybe? Bacon may make me feel better…”
Watching as Fred further explained things, Katie could feel her heart beginning to break for him, primarily because she had no idea what to do. She knew how upset she would be if Henry and her had gotten into a fight the same scale Fred and George seemed to have, but… it wasn’t the same. Henry wasn’t her twin. She had a strong bond with him, but not nearly that strong. She had always been Katie, he had always been Henry. There had never been a Henry and Katie like there had been a Fred and George. Katie loved flying and quidditch and Henry loved muggle studies and working with muggle things. Katie was more than ready to make major life decisions without considering how her brother was going to take it, and when Fred got into talking about proposing, Katie could feel the guilt creeping up on her. She didn’t know if it was that or the baby that was making her feel nauseous - was it even possible for the baby to make her feel nauseous that early? She’d have to ask her healer some questions the next time she visited.
She decided not to say anything as she began chopping up an onion, turning her head so she wouldn’t end up crying. When he mentioned bacon as he wrapped his arms around her waist, Katie looked up at him and arched a brow. “Frederick Gideon Weasley, you of all people should know no breakfast is complete without bacon!”
Giggling, Katie pressed her lips to his this time, letting them linger for a few moments before she pulled away. “Bacon, sausage, eggs, hashbrowns - we’re having the works tonight.” The more she thought about it, the more hungry she got. Setting her knife down and pulling herself away from his hold, she grabbed a jar of pickles out of the fridge and pulled one out, taking a rather large bite out of it and chewing shamelessly.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Weasley baby!!! That makes me incredibly happy!
Katie and Luna need to hang out soon and dish..and eat pudding…and just be girly.
Are there manis and pedis in the Potterverse?
IF THERE AREN’T THERE NEED TO BE
and yes they do need to hang out and eat pudding and bacon and be girls. I concur.
Fred tried to pull himself together enough to talk to Katie about all of this. Everything that needed to say had him in it and he was sure that he was going to break down. Not that he already had. That was just a confrontation between brothers, nothing more. Although, the confrontation took more out of him that it did George. Emotionally, Fred wasn’t prepared for what George had told him.
“He…he doesn’t need me anymore.” Standing and shrugging off Katie, he made his way to the kitchen and leaned against the door frame, his shoulders shuddering against his breath. “He’s staying in Romania to work with Charlie and to find himself there.”
This was killing Fred inside - no matter how good his composure was, no matter how well he chose he words and how hard he tried to turn his emotions away, Katie knew it. She could feel it and as Fred stood up and walked away, Katie frowned and watched him. She couldn’t believe it - she honestly couldn’t believe that George had said that, and even if he had, there was no way in hell he could have actually meant it.
Walking slowly over to Fred, Katie smoothed out her shirt and stood on her toes, pressing a kiss against his cheek. “He didn’t mean it, love. He was probably just upset… he’ll come back.” Her hand found his and she squeezed it, nodding. “He’ll come back.”
Pressing another kiss to his cheek, Katie walked into the kitchen and opened up the fridge, extracting a couple of packages and putting them on the counter. “How does breakfast for dinner sound?”
She sincerely hoped he’d be more than happy about her whimsical choice for dinner - right now she wanted bacon and eggs with cheese on top and some hash browns, and an omelet with onions and ham…
Perhaps the healer should have mention cravings starting as early as four weeks.
His senses were beginning to blur. Although he really didn’t want to see right now, his hearing was beginning to be muffled. Why now? Why did he have to run into that bloody bastard now? Well, he wasn’t a bloody bastard but still, it made him absolutely furious and upset that he hadn’t heard from him in ages. A letter, an owl, even just a snippet of something that he could hang onto would have been enough. But no. Fred didn’t have any of that.
The creak of the door burst through his daze and he could only guess that Katie had come home from her meeting. He wanted to move, wanted to get closer to her and hug her, but she beat him to the punch and sat on the couch next to him. Fred’s voice was shaky and unclear at first. ”George…” It still hurt to even think about him, but Katie was going to think the inevitable unless he got the last few words out.
“George stopped by the shop with Charlie. He’s staying in Romania.”
The silence that followed her question felt like an eternity - each passing second pounded in her ears as she waited for an answer from him. Anything - anything in the world that pointed in a different direction than where her mind was taking her would have been some sort of salvation, and it wasn’t coming - not nearly as fast as she wanted it to.
When Fred said George and nothing else, Katie swore she felt her heart drop. No. No. No, no, no. Tears were already starting to form and she could feel her throat closing up when he finally clarified before Katie could break down at the thought of George being dead. Granted, the relief she felt was very short-lived, but it was relief nonetheless, soon replaced by confusion as Katie knitted her eyebrows together and cleared her throat.
“Romania?” she asked softly, rubbing his shoulder. “Why on Earth is he staying in Romania?”
ooc: jfsdijgfios so sorry I haven’t been on, I’ve been sick the past couple of days and my niece swallowed a quarter (she’s fine now). I’M STILL HERE THOUGH. <3
What had happened…he couldn’t really understand but Fred knew that it had to be done. It was the only thing that he could really think about and not break down again. He was just waiting for Katie to come home from her Quidditch meeting and then he’d tell her. He’d tell her everything abouthimand where the hellhe’dbeen for the last few months.
Katie had been having regular meetings with the coach and having sessions to build up her muscles again, but it still waiting to get back on the broom. Fred knew it was going to be one of her best games when she was able to play a match again, but for right now she was getting more muscled. And she had this glow about her. It was probably just from getting back on her feet. He wasn’t sure at the moment.
All Fred could really think about was…him. He held his head in his hands, attempting to keep composure but lost it quickly.
Katie took a deep breath as she left the healer’s office, adjusting her ponytail as her mind ran at a hundred miles a minute. She had been having suspicions with what was going on with her body for over a week and after visiting her healer, she had gained a little bit of closure.
So why wasn’t she relaxed?
Oh, there were several reasons for it – mainly because she had lied to Fred tonight, telling him she was at a Quidditch meeting when, in reality, she was visiting a healer for reasons other than building up her muscles and strength for quidditch, and as she appareted to Diagon Alley and saw the shop, it all began to sink in.
She was going to be a mother.
It was safe to say that Katie was a little unnerved about it all, primarily because she had to go through the whole ordeal of telling Fred again, but it was true – she was pregnant. And as she made her way into the joke shop and up the stairs, she told herself that she would be okay. She would be okay, because when she told Fred tonight, he’d be over the moon. She knew after their first pregnancy scare that he had become more and more okay with the thought of being a father, even though he certainly did have some doubts – then again, so did Katie.
Taking a deep breath and opening the door, Katie found Fred sitting on the couch – though she went from cool and confident to concerned in a matter of seconds, dropping her purse on the table by the door and heading over to him right away.
“Fred?” she spoke softly, sitting down and wrapping an arm around him. He was crying – something that he never did, and instantly Katie’s mind went to one place and the color drained from her face. “Fred, honey – sweetie, what’s wrong? Tell me what’s wrong…”
She hoped to high heavens that her assumptions that someone had died were very, very wrong.
